Llyle Morningwood
Full Name: Llyle Ravan En' i' Arinya Anoron
(Literal Translation: Llyle [of the] Forest of the Early Dawn) (Last name generated using this site.)
Race: Wood Elven
Class: Wizard/LoreMaster
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Character Profile: Llyle is a bitter and hateful wood elf. He sees himself as better than everyone, even those that are genuinely better than he. Raised in a noble house and receiving training in the magical arts as well as swordplay and politics, Llyle is physically fit and capable of defending himself effectively. He does not have any friends and is generally unlikable due to his attitude. Other people are just nobodies, associates, followers, or enemies. Llyle uses and disposes of people in his life as suits his needs. He hates "Boneless" Luke Kithkani on a personal level for being in a position of power over him and for being half-elven (An abomination against nature!) to the point of going out of his way to annoy Luke any way and chance he gets. Unable to correctly pronounce or remember his elven name, the lesser races (anyone not pure elven) have taken to shortening "Forest of the Early Dawn" to "Woods of the Morning" which ultimately led to the easier-to-say and funny "Morningwood." Llyle has grown accustomed to the idiots at large always deriving this name and, for decades now, quietly suffers the inevitable snickers that follow the announcement of his common name.
Backstory: Llyle is the foster son of a lesser noble of the kingdom of his birth. Unable to bear children of her own, his foster mother rescued baby Llyle from an outlying village after his parents were killed by a wandering mercenary group from [that Evil Kingdom whose name escapes me]. She was surveying the aftermath the morning after the raid when Llyle cried out, leading her to the place where his parents had hidden him. She raised him as her own, never telling him about his origins. Llyle grew up believing himself to be of noble blood and acted as such. Being raised with the other noble elves, though, led to class warfare amongst his peers. Often, his mother's lesser place in the nobility hierarchy was used against Llyle by ways of taunts and acts of favoritism towards the "better" elves. Even the noble's tutors treated Llyle as if he were mentally fragile since they knew the truth of his birth.
As all secrets are prone to do, the truth eventually leaked out. As all the older nobles already knew of this secret, there was no great scandal to be had. But amongst his own generation, Llyle was mercilessly mocked, embarrassed shunned, and ridiculed. Since his mother had acted in accordance with her station and rights, no penalty was given to her. Llyle seethed with impotent rage against his equals, his mother, the impassive nobles, and the kingdom at large. Having just passed the lawful age of ascension (adulthood) according to the laws of his kingdom, Llyle set out on his own with a hard and bitter heart. He was determined to grow powerful. He would be more important than anyone else in the world! Everyone would seek him out and beg his favors because they knew he was better than them.
On his early travels, Llyle acquired a magical copper medallion which he wears as a necklace. It is enchanted with a permanent mind-reading charm which enables Llyle to read the surface thoughts of a person on which he concentrates. This most happens during one-on-one conversations where it appears he is fidgeting with the medallion. Most people dismiss the action as a nervous habit. The medallion can be used at a distance as long as it is within line-of-sight and about 100 feet. (Same room.) Clear glass does not block the effect, but paper does, as it is opaque.
Llyle eventually found his way as a "refugee" to the port city of Mystic Harbor where his tales (lies) of narrow escapes and bravery earned him just enough sympathy for him to weasel his way into a entry-level faculty position in the city's meager school of magic. This gave him room and board while he studied the arts he did not learn growing up. While at the school, Llyle was tasked with organizing the school's library as the previous librarian had gone missing several years ago and everybody else was just too busy with their own areas to take over the responsibility. In the process of sorting and categorizing the stacks of scrolls and tomes, Llyle read and learned much about the world at large, in particular, its origins and early history. Most interesting to him were the stories of the Artifacts of Power given to mortal champions of the gods long ago but are now lost. Not having heard these stories in his youth, Llyle incorrectly assumes that the world at large has forgotten about these artifacts and sets his own private goal of finding and collecting them for his own use. Eventually his studies grew expensive and he was asked to help with funding the school if he were to keep his position.
Realizing that he had learned about all he was capable of learning from that institution, Llyle signed up to be the ship's navigator on The Grey Lady captained by one Breeia Redwater. He did not renounce his position at the school as he still needed their facilities for research and storage. This ultimately led to him teaching some courses and gaining some student-followers which he uses freely to gather supplies for him, usually in nearby caves and ruins. The adventures he had with Captain Redwater helped fund his research and studies in his quest to find these Lost Artifacts of Power.
