Rill Burgeon

Rill was born and raised in the town of Kleinesdorf (German for Little Village). He left town as a young man to seek his fame and fortune in the crystal wars as a mercenary. The years were hard and he grew callous towards his fellow humans as he saw what atrocities they were capable of doing to each other. As a soldier, though, he became skilled in the ways of warfare and strategy. Rill developed a knack for improvising while constructing tools, buildings, and gear that often saved his life during the war. After 25 years of service to a mercenary unit, Rill earned his retirement. Given a pouch of gold and a handful of the rare and precious crystals, Rill headed home a bitter and weary man.

All Rill wants now is to live a quiet life of solitude where the war doesn't have any effect on his daily life. He is pessimistic about people’s motives in life and constantly suspects hidden agendas whenever anyone asks anything from anyone else. It would be nice if he found someone of pure heart and mind with which to live out his days, but he doesn't think this person exists. More often than not, his suspicions about people acting for selfish reasons are proven true. Rill has lost all hope in humanity and just wants to live out his days.

His appearance is that of a cynical war veteran. The head is weather-beaten and creased with fatigue. A few faint scars can be seen through the thinning crew-cut hair commonly seen on the soldiers in the war. He was lucky that he hasn't lost any limbs, eyes, or other parts of his body. On returning to Kleinesdorf , he is wearing his old battered armor from the battlefront. A standard-issue sword hangs by his side in its scabbard.

(I imagine this character to look something like Viggo Mortensen as Strider from the Lord of the Rings, but with an attitude and expression like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven.)
