Kleinesdorf
I wrote some background story for someone I met on the GameMaker Community forums. He had a serviceable game engine and needed a writer. Several months passed without contact since I gave him this story so I messaged him asking if everything was still going to plan. He confessed to life getting complicated and no longer having the source files for his game engine. The project was dead. The story rights I gave him are now reverted back to me to do with as I see fit. I want to eventually make this game in GameMaker: Studio or perhaps RPG Maker VX ACE if and when I get the time and can recruit some visually artistic talent.
So for now, I am posting the pages I wrote regarding story, background, world, and characters available for anyone to read and comment on. There is also a hand-drawn map of the village which is proof enough that I am not a visual artist by any definition. (Sad drawing skills for a mid-life aged male!) On a side note: I originally called the village Kleinesburg, but since that means "Little Castle", I changed it to Kleinesdorf ("Little Village") for accuracy. The map still has the old name on it.
So the game will play something like The Legend of Zelda. The big differentiation is that the player can build and deploy towers much like in a tower defense game. The smaller differentiation is that the main character, Rill, is an adult war veteran. As such, he already has all the skills he needs to survive. Like Link, he already has all the moves he needs to survive, but will gain more abilities through the equipment he collects or builds. Rill is a reluctant hero that just wants to retire. I am not trying for an "M" rating, but this game will not be developed for the young child audience either. The story will be rough and tumble along the lines of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven if I am successful.
